Taylor Swift performed at Amazon's Prime Day concert last night. It was her first public appearance since she published an open letter stating that Scooter Braun acquiring her music catalog was her "worst case scenario." Swift didn't talk about the scandal...but she did emphasize one "Shake It Off" lyric that represented as her stance on everything.
Swift confirmed on her Tumblr after the show that she screamed the line "Liars and the dirty, dirty cheats of the world" purposely by liking several comments about it. You can watch her performance of it below:
At the show and in her Tumblr likes, she didn't name names directly (either Braun or Big Machine Label's Scott Borchetta). But as Swift explained in 2015, direct callouts like that have never been her style. “I’ve never named names, so I feel like I still have a sense of power over what people say—even if that isn’t true, and even if I don’t have any power over what people say about me,” Swift told GQ in an interview at the time. “The fact that I’ve never confirmed who those songs are about makes me feel like there is still one card I’m holding."
But Swift's tone echoes what a source told E! last week about how she feels about the response to her blog post. "No matter what Scooter or any of his people say, Taylor believes he did this to hurt her," the outlet's source said. "She wants the truth about him to come out. She was furious and she still is. She is so upset and has zero regrets about making this public."
Braun, meanwhile, has not responded publicly to her, and Us Weekly reported earlier this week that the man who manages Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Demi Lovato among other stars does not plan to. “Scooter has tried to reach Taylor though multiple channels,” the outlet's source said. “He was really shocked at her response. Scooter won’t be commenting publicly about this…He wants to have a private, direct conversation with Taylor.”
